All India Consumer Price Index - May, 2011

AICPIN (All India Consumer Price Index Numbers) of Industrial Workers reached at 187 for the month of May 2011. This is one point increase from the AICPIN for the month of April 2011. The calculation is on the base of 2011=100.

The maximum increase marked in Ludhiana as 8 points and the maximum decrease marked in Rangapara, Tezpur centre is 4 points.

The AICPIN for industrial workers is calculated with the increase and decrease of prices in various commodities such as Atta, rice, and edible oil, vegetables and all such commodities in daily use. The Variation of price in these commodities reflects soon in every body’s life.

The indices six major centers are as follows:

1. Ahmedabad   -           180


2. Bangalore      -           192


3. Chennai         -           166


4. Delhi            -           172


5. Kolkata         -           181


6. Mumbai         -           186


The rate of General inflation in India for the month of May 2001 is 8.72%, April, 2011 is 9.41% and it was on March, 2011 was 8.82%. The Food Index based inflation is in May 7.61%, 8.24% in April, 2011 and in March, 2011 it was 8.29%.

The changes in AICPIN of Industrial workers have a two sided effect for Government employees. The Calculation of Dearness Allowance (D.A) is as per the changes of Consumer price Index.
