AICPIN For the month of January 2012 is 198

The All India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Industrial Workers for the month of January, 2012 is recorded as 198 points on the basis of 2001 = 100. The Labour Bureau, Government of India published this through a press release on 29th February, 2012. This 198 point is one point increase from the AICPIN (IW) for the month of December 2011 which was 197 points. AICPIN for the month of November was 199 and there was a decrease of two points in December and now one point increase from December, 2011 and at the same time one point decrease from November 2011.

When consider the index number on centre wise, the maximum increase of 9 points recorded in Haldia and Bhilai centres and minimum increase of one point in 7 centers. In 16 centres there is no any change in Consumer price index number.  At the same time the maximum decrease of Consumer price index number as 3 points recorded in Rangapura, Tezpur and Godavarikhani centres and one point decrease in 8 centers.

The All India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Industrial Workers are mainly calculated with the price variation of household items such as wheat, edible oil, rice, vegetables, fruits, meat and related items.

Following are the Consumer price index of six major centers

1. Ahmadabad       -        192

2. Bangalore          -        200

3. Chennai              -        187  

4. Delhi                    -        181

5. Kolkata               -        184

6. Mumbai              -        199

The point to point rate of inflation recorded on the basis of Consumer price index for industrial workers for January 2012 is 5.32% compared to 6.49% in December, 2011.

The AICPIN is important to know the cost of living and the Dearness Allowance to Government Employees is calculating on the basis of All India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Industrial Workers, time to time.

While there is one point increase in AICPIN-IW the All-India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers for January, 2012 remained stable at 618  points for Agricultural Labourers and 619 points for Rural Labourers. (Base: 1986-87=100)
